The opening seminar and concert in Uppsala June 2nd

Queen Christina abdicated from the Swedish throne at a famous ceremony on 6 June 1654 in the Hall of State of the Uppsala Castle. Almost exactly 360 years later, June 2 in the same hall, the European Culture Initiative, Queen Christina of Sweden, the European, was inaugurated by Princess Christina Mrs Magnuson with a scientific seminar and a concert.

This project has followed the path of Queen Christina through Europe after her abdication, with concerts, seminars and other events during 2014-15 in nine different cities in Austria, Belgium, France, Italy and Sweden. The concluding events of this first two-years phase of the Initiative will take place in Gothenburg 25 and 26 June 2015.

The Queen Christina project is based on a cooperation between the Foundation Queen Christina, the European Culture Initiative and Royal Festivals, Sweden, Austria Barock Akademie, Fondation Maison des Sciences de l´Homme, France and Teatro Lirico Sperimentale ”A.Belli”,  Italy.  It has received support from the Culture Programme of the European Union, Jacob Wallenberg Foundation, Riksbankens Jubileumsfond, Kungliga Vitterhetsakademien, Kungliga Patriotiska Sällskapet as well as from educational and research institutions, associations and individuals in the four organizing countries.
